The flagship store of Shinsegae Department Store has an interesting
history as Korea’s first department store. The main building of the
store was opened in 1930 as the Gyeongsong branch of Mitsukoshi, a
Japanese department store franchise. The store was acquired in 1945 by
the Samsung Group and renamed Donghwa Department Store. After the Korean
War (1950–1953) began, it was used for several years as a post exchange
by the American army. The store adopted its current name in 1963, and
since then has opened many branches all over Korea. Shinsegae was
completely renovated and transformed into a luxury department store in
2007. The flagship store is an iconic place that symbolizes Shinsegae’s
traditions and values and its elegant architecture recalls its long

The Shinsegae flagship store features the world’s top three designer
labels, Hermès, Chanel and Louis Vuitton, as well as other exclusive
brands such as Giorgio Armani Black Label, Denim Mania and Shoes-holic

Designer multi-shop, Boon the Shop & Company
In order to provide a great shopping experience, the store is also home
to the designer multi-shop (a fashion shop that features several designer
brands), Boon the Shop & Company, on the fifth floor. This is an upgrade
of Boon the Shop, Korea’s first multi-shop. Boon the Shop & Company
features labels popular amongst young people and up and coming designer
labels. It specializes in 30 different men’s, women’s and accessories
labels, notably New York designers in the women’s collections, and
European designers for both men’s and women’s wear, sports items and
casual items. Brands include Phillip Lim, Alexander Wang, MM6, Rag &
Bone, Dsquared2, Moncler and Helmutlang.From a shopping experience to a cultural experience
The department store also features a conceptual multi-gallery that is
comprised of elevator halls and art-walls that allows for visitors to
enjoy artwork of different concepts on every floor. The is not a place

Shinsegae Culture Hall, located on the tenth floor of the new building,
is a 350-seat hall that holds performances of various genres. The
performance program can be found on the website below; please note that

The Food Gallery on the first basement floor features a wide range of
food; the first floor offers mainly cosmetics and luxury goods; the
second and third floors feature women’s wear; the fourth and fifth
floors display casual wear for young people; the sixth and seventh floors
specialize in men’s and golf wear; the eighth floor features kids’
and sports wear; the ninth floor features household items; the tenth and
eleventh floors house a number of restaurants; the twelfth floor features
Shinsegae Gallery and the Customer Center; the thirteenth floor houses
beauty clinics and the fourteenth floor is home to Shinsegae Academy,
