Of the many bridges that cross the Hangang (River), there are five – Yanghwadaegyo, Hangangdaegyo, Dongjakdaegyo, Hannamdaegyo, Jamsildaegyo – that feature viewing cafes where visitors can enjoy spectacular views of the Hangang. The latest café, Café Aritaum, is located at the south end of the Yanghwadaegyo (or Yanghwa Bridge). Café Aritaum is actually a pair of cafes located on both sides of the bridge – Café Aritaum Seonyu and Café Aritaum Yanghwa. Café Aritaum Seonyu is on the west side of the bridge, facing downstream towards Seonyudo Park, and Café Aritaum Yanghwa is on the east side of the bridge, facing upstream towards Yeouido. * Buses stop right in front of the cafes* Café Aritaum Seonyu and Café Aritaum Yanghwa face each other on the Yanghwa BridgeHow to Get to the Cafe There are several ways to reach Café Aritaum. You can take subway line 2 or 9 to Dangsan Station or subway line 9 to Seonyudo Station. You can also take subway line 2 or 6 to Hapjeong Station, and then take a bus that will drop you off directly in front of the café. The café doesn’t have their own parking lot, so if you plan on driving there, it’s recommended that you park in the Hangang Park parking lot. If you’re not getting dropped off right in front of the café, you’ll need to take the inclined elevator up to the bridge. * Take the futuristic-looking inclined elevator to get up to the bridge* View from inside the inclined elevator* The back exterior of the café. Half of the structure houses the café, while the other half houses the bus stop.* Elevator entrance on the bridgeThe Scenic Views The two cafes are very similar in size and shape, but they offer two very different scenic views. Café Aritaum Seonyu offers views of Seonyudo Park, the Seongsandaegyo (Bridge) and is a great place to watch the sunset, whereas Café Aritaum Yanghwa offers views of Yeouido, the Dangsan Railway Bridge and has a better view of the river. The time of day that you go also has an effect on the scenery. If you’re at the café during the day, you’ll be able to see more of the cityscape, whereas if you go at night, you can appreciate the city skyline at night. * View of Café Aritaum Yanghwa from below the bridge* View of Café Aritaum Seonyu from below the bridge* The glow of the café is even more beautiful at night* View of Dangsan Railway Bridge at night from Café Aritaum YanghwaCafe Interior & Menu The interior design of the two cafes are also different from each other. The west-facing café, Café Aritaum Seonyu, was designed with a western-style interior, and the east-facing café, Café Aritaum Yanghwa, was designed with an eastern-style interior. Café Aritaum Seonyu features bar seating and cushioned chairs, whereas Café Aritaum Yanghwa features furnishings with hanok inspired patterns. But this is where the differences stop. Both cafes are similar in size and length, each with one wall facing the Hangang and one wall facing the street. The walls facing the river have large circular windows, and the walls facing the street have floor-to-ceiling glass windows. The menus are also the same, featuring fair trade coffee, brownies made with organic ingredients, yogurt, oriental herbal tea, beer, organic beverages, various cakes and other delicious treats. * Western-style interior of Café Aritaum Seonyu* Eastern-style interior of Café Aritaum Yanghwa* Floor-to-ceiling glass windows* The menu* White pecan cake and a yogurt parfait* Magazines are available for patrons to read About Of the many bridges that cross the Hangang (River), there are five – Yanghwadaegyo, Hangangdaegyo, Dongjakdaegyo, Hannamdaegyo, Jamsildaegyo – that feature viewing cafes where visitors can enjoy spectacular views of the Hangang.
