The Jeonju Nambu Market Cheongnyeon (Youth) Mall (Cheongnyeon Mall in short, hereafter) was established with the effort to revitalize Korea’s traditional market culture. It was a major project geared to support young and ambitious entrepreneurs trying to launch start-ups. The second floor of one building at Jeonju Nambu Traditional Market, which has a history of over 100 years, was rarely visited, as it was mostly used for storage, so the conversion was a good opportunity for both sides. The project began with just 12 shops, but soon increased to 32 unique stores operating successfully today. The businesses in Cheongnyeon Mall include restaurants, bars, hand-craft stores, coffee shops, galleries, board game rooms and more, all offering high quality services at reasonable prices. As an added point, their charming and creative interiors and exteriors add more interest to visit each shop. The owners help each other to achieve the larger goal of shared-growth, and this idea has inspired many more young people to become entrepreneurs. Their effort definitely earned them more customers as well as the reputation as a role model in solving unemployment problems. As part of the efforts, many weekly and monthly cultural events are also held at the Cheongnyeon Mall, continually drawing in more visitors.
