A local fixture for a long time, Grandma Jin Sun-ja has been rolling gimbap in the same Bongcheon-dong restaurant for the last 40 years. Even today, she helps out in the restaurant for three to four hours every day in the afternoon. She makes sure to greet her clientele who continue to visit for her gimbap, a long-standing soul food for office workers and students in the district.
Gyeranmari Gimbap is deceptively simple for how packed with flavor it is. The gimbap is filled with only thinly cut sausage, chives, and pickled radish. Then, an omelet is quickly cooked and used to wrap the gimbap. The dish is served with jangajji (pickled radish) that is salty and crunchy. Overall, the Gyeranmari Gimbap is quite delicious and particularly savory thanks to its egg wrapping.
The restaurant does not accept credit card payments, does not offer delivery services, and visitors must wait in line until they are served. But the restaurant has 20 or so branch restaurants in other parts of the country, so hopefully you won’t have to travel too far for this treat.
