About The Kyushu Ceramic Museum
The Kyushu Ceramic Museum is a museum located in Saga Prefecture's Nishimatsura district. It is Kyushu's largest pottery museum and contains ceramics from all over Kyushu, and contains exhibitions of contemporary ceramic artists. Among them are the Shibata husband and wife collection and the Aoki Ryuzan collection, as well as the Kambara collection. The Shibata collection is a major collection that has over 10,311 items donated by the Shibata family. In particular this collection specializes in the transitory period of Arita ceramics during the Edo Period(1603-1868), and they introduce the characteristics and changes in technology involved in Arita porcelain. The Aoki Ryuzan collection is a permanent exhibition of the works of Aoki Ryuzan who did a vast majority of his ceramics in black. The Kambara collection deals with early Imari porcelain that was exported out of Japan. In addition, outside there is a set of 25 Meissen porcelain bells that you can listen to the beautiful sounds from.

By public transit, take the JR Sasebo Line to Arita Station (有田駅). By car, take the Nagasaki Expressway to Takeo-Kitagata IC (武雄北方IC). Free parking is available, but during special exhibitions a fee is required.
