This alley runs from the Hyundai HQ Building to Choong Ang High School. During school hours, the alley is crowded with students. On the street, there are grocery stores, hair shops, public sauna facilities and snack shops. Here you can see the everyday life of the common people. Also along the street, you can see different cultural facility signs like the Bukchon Traditional Culture Center, and Hanok-style guest houses are here, too.
On Gyedong-gil, many historical sites are hidden. Located at the end of an alley in Gye-dong, Choong Ang High School was designated as a Historic Site in 1983. Under the Japanese Rule, teachers Song Jinwoo and Hyeon Sangyun had meetings for the March 1st Movement in the school’s night duty room.
Today, the school is an attraction for Japanese tourists who are fans of "Winter Sonata," a popular Korean drama series. In Gye-dong, there is the Yusim office building, where the monthly magazine was first published by Manhae Han Yongun.
Inchon Kim Seong-su’s old house is also maintained as the "Inchon Memorial Hall." He established Choong Ang High School, Donga Daily and Korea University.
